Chapter One

(6 years later)
June 2004

"I can't believe you gave me this!" Skylar said with a look of sheer horror written all over her face. "How could you even suggest this?"

"Come on Sky! This will be fun!" exclaimed Jasmine with a laugh as she shoved the small thin of piece of paper on her hands.

"No fricken WAY Jasmine! It's one thing you got the job as one of Hanson's wardrobe people, but it's quite another when you drag me down with you!"

Jasmine pinched her bridge of her nose. "Okay. Skylar look. Ever since you got home from the treatment center, all you've done is sit on the couch moping, and feeling sorry for yourself!"

Skylar frowned at the statement. "I have not! I have been out!"

"Only if I ask you to run an errand for me! Other than that, you just sit in front of the couch watching All In The Family reruns!"

Skylar crossed her arms. "Hey it's a good show!"

"That's not the point, Sky!"

"Then what is?"

Jasmine sighed. "Skylar".

Skylar averted her eyes from her older sister's gaze. In truth, she was right. Ever since she had been released from the treatment center, Skylar had been doing nothing, but...well...moping.

It had begun 6 years ago, with the cancer, Skylar didn't find out until a weekend trip to the mall, with Jasmine. One minute they were trying on bracelets, and the next, Jasmine was lying on the floor unconscious. At the hospital, Jasmine had no other choice but to tell her 12 year old sister the heart wrenching news. Cancer. The news had shaken her to the core. Shock was quickly replace with anger, but realizing that Jasmine may only have months to live, she had cried along with her sister, despite her pain.

Being in remission the following year meant high hopes for Jasmine. She still got into the second semester at NYU, and graduated right on time, alongside her boyfriend Lamar.

Skylar on the other hand, continued to go downhill. After her junior year of high school, Sky had became a whole other person. Someone who her sister nor her parents reconized. And that scared them. So when Jasmine finally found a place of her own, their mother suggest that she move in with her for awhile. Just until she could 'find herself again'.

Now going into her senior year of high school, Sky's family was determined to see her graduate.

Skylar... just didn't care.

To her, no one did.
